Thanks for coming!!!

Just another thanks to everyone who was able to attend!  We had a great turn out and so much fun reconnecting with everyone.  If you were unable to make it, we hope you can make it to the next one!

I've been told that we can keep this website up indefinately... so stay here & as we locate more classmates, we can refer them to this site & hopefully we'll have a good head start on locating everyone for the next reunion... unsure at this point if it will be in 5 or 10 years?

See you all around.  Hope we can stay in touch via all of our wonderful social networks.

Take care!

Rachel

Friday Night (night before reunion)
Hi all,

New plan for Friday night! As originally stated we will be at the Elbow Room at 7pm. However, we just learned that a fellow BHS classmate (Paul Frederick) has a new restaurant in town & would love for us to come by there as well.... so here's the plan!

Elbow Room 7 to 9 as originally planned.

Eureka!Burger 9:30 until closing (if you wish). www.eurekaburger.com

Paul is going to get an 80's cover band to come play for us! Rachel went there for lunch last week & says it has awesome food, music, a full bar, a great crowd, a nice patio, and 40 beers on tap! It's located just down the street at Palm & Nees in the same lot at GB3 and the Daily Grill.

Hope to see you at one or both locations!!!
Rachel, Susan & Tim

What to wear???
I just had this question come up, so I thought I'd send out an answer to all...

Remember... this is a "Dressy Casual" event. NO Coat & Tie, NO formal dresses, etc. This is an outdoor cocktail/dinner party. Guys ~ a nice shirt & jeans will be fine! Girls ~ I might wear a cute/casual/cocktail dress if not, a cute top & jeans for me/us too! We want you to be comfortable & have some fun! See you there!

We need your help... please read!
Hi everybody!

We are getting down to the final details of our reunion... and we could use your help!! Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated! Please take a few minutes to read the info below... thanks!

* We are still trying to locate a couple hundred classmates... please spread the word! If you haven't yet registered on the website, please do!

* If you still have any old jerseys, uniforms, souvenirs of any sort from any of our years in high school, please try to dig those out of storage & send them to us for a MEMORY WALL. You can take them home that night. I'm thinking letterman jackets, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball jersey's, cheer uniforms, poms, etc., just to name a few.

*PICTURES!!! ~ We are putting a slide show together & have our senior slide show, but we don't have everyone in it & would love to add to it! So please email 1-2 pictures of yourself to me or msg me if you have them on your FB page, I can go to it & copy them.

*If you have any photo's of our deceased classmates, I'd love to have those as well.

* MILITARY? ~ We need to know who has served in the military, if I've talked to you about it already... we're good, if we haven't please let me know!

* Raffle PRIZES ~ if you have a business or anything you'd like to donate for our raffle please let Susan or myself know. We are also accepting sponsors to promote your business & support each other from our class.

* MUSIC ~ Tim is putting a play list together, if you have any requests, please let him know!

Our deadline for music, slideshow pics and souvenir book Bio's is August 25th... only 9 days away, so please don't hesitate on these things. We want this to be an awesome night, if we work together it will be!!

Update on

Dear Friends, I am unable to remove/delete the message below this on the message board... and the previous fund raiser has now past, so I thought I'd update the board, in case anyone is interested helping...

Dear Friends,

We lost a beautiful soul today. Our beloved brother, father, husband, son and friend, Daren, passed away this morning, surrounded by family at 4:30am PST on July 7th.  We take comfort in knowing that Daren is at peace in the arms of our Lord, relieved of the burden of his physical body.

Services were held on Saturday, July 17th 2010

God Bless,
Julie

Remembrances Information

How you can help Daren...

Thanks to all of you that have been offering your support... I've had a few emails from friends out of state/country asking how to help.  We (the committee) are trying to think of a way to host our own event or incorporate something at the reunion to come directly from our class for Daren & his family.  But in the meantime for the month of July we can contribute through the HOW Foundation.

You can make checks payable directly to Tanya Torbet and mail them to:

Helping One Woman - PO Box 3375 - Pinedale, CA 93650

Thanks again!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of us on the committee directly.  Rachel  @ scambraygrls@yahoo.com, Susan @ wsflores@att.net or Tim @ tkjndvo@yahoo.com

Supporting a fellow classmate..

It is with heavy hearts that we share some deeply sad news with you regarding one of our dear classmates, Daren Torbet, and his declining health/medical condition.

For many of you this will be unexpected and will sadden you as it has us.  While we completely respect the personal and private nature of Daren and his families situation, we really want to help support them in any way possible. There is now an opportunity to offer a little bit of support & we hope that you appreciate this chance while we still have it.

To learn more about Daren's journey and how we can offer some support, you may read the following story/bio and also visit his caring bridge website at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/darentorbet

Sincerely,
Susan (Berg) Flores, Rachel (Butterfield) Scambray, Tim Dvorak

Here’s how WE can HELP!
HOW (Helping One Woman) is honoring Tanya (Daren's wife) on July 20th at Aqua Shi at 6pm. Each month they select a person to honor. Women can make reservations at the restaurant chosen, pay for their own meal and donate $10 to the honoree.
Who is Tanya Torbet? Here is her bio in the July newsletter for HOW and is copied below:

My name is Tanya Torbet. My husband, Daren Torbet, and I are both teachers in Clovis Unified and we have two children; Ashlin, 5 and Austin, 7. Our family is very honored to be the recipient of the HOW foundation for July. I have had such a great support system with family and friends; I am so blessed to have been nominated.

I met my husband, Daren, in 1995. I was in search of help in finishing a paper for college and little did I know, I walked into the home of an amazing writer. He helped me finish my paper with ease and, although neither of us was in search of love, it happened anyway. We got engaged on the dirt path that is now the entrance to our dream home. We salvaged a little run-down home on 6 acres and built it up to be our own peaceful sanctuary. We have raised our children, had endless family holidays and friendly gatherings, and provided a home for every type of farm animal imaginable at Torbet Ranch.

In June 2009 my 37 year-old husband was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, a grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme. We immediately sought treatment at UCLA Medical Center.

Our journey began with a 6-week stay in LA for radiation and chemo treatment. Daren was chosen to participate in a drug trial, but was released due to complications with blood clots. Once we came home to Fresno, he received CPT-11 (chemotherapy) and Avastin on a 2 week cycle; visiting doctors in Fresno for lab work, which also included monthly visits to LA for MRI scans. We continued this method of treatment until April 2010. The tumor remained stable, but Daren continued to lose strength.

In May 2010, we received the devastating news that Daren was no longer able to receive treatment. His body was simply too weak. As you may have figured out, ending treatment meant the tumor was free to grow and slowly take away the beautiful soul that is my husband. In June 2010 we welcomed Hinds Hospice into our home to help our family care for Daren.

This has been a difficult journey. Sadly, the journey will shortly come to an end and our family will be left with a huge void. Your support means everything right now. Thank you.

You have to check this out

I just clicked on the little thing that says "Where are they now?" and it is so cool!  It gives you an at a glance map view of the United States and if you zoom out, the world!  I just noticed that we have classmates all over the country and 4 that live in other countries!  This is really fun to see this way... when you have a little time, please take a look!

Also, real quick, reunion invitation packets will be mailed out sometime this month, so please continue helping us locate our missing classmates and direct them to this site!!!  I'm really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in September!

Take care, Rachel (Butterfield) Scambray

Celebrate ~ Honor ~ Giving Thanks!

After reading our last 2 entries here, I have to add this... Thank you to Julie & Scott for sharing a little bit about your private lives, losses, blessings & struggles... with us.  I truly & sincerely appreciate both of your stories and photos.

You have both made me think about something else we need to do at our reunion!  A lot does happen in 20 years, and somehow we are all bound together by those short 4 years we spent together in high school.  We (the reunion committee) have been talking about celebrating & honoring those classmates that we have lost and those who have served our country in the military!  Both very important...

However, I now think it is important to honor those of us who are still here, who have fought for life, lost loved ones, and have had personal battles to live!  I want to honor & celebrate you!

So I ask everyone, to share briefly with us, your old friends, what you have gone through (the good and the bad) over the last 20 years!  I feel it will help make this reunion even more meaningful.

OK, enough of my sappiness.  Please do fill out the "Bio" section for our reunion souvenir books... that way we can all celebrate this precious life together!

Thank you!

Rachel

It seems like another world when we were in school. So many things have happend, so many losses, so many blessings. In these 20 years I lost a son which was the most painful experience of my life. Then I was blessed again with twin boys and a daughter who are my every breath. I love my work as a paramedic, which I have done for 16 of these 20 years. I don't know if I will be making it to the reunion, but if not I will be there in spirit and hope all have a great tme!

Should we have a family picnic?

Hi all,

I would like your input... I was talking to Roxanna Diaz yesterday and she asked if we were going to have a family picnic? Susan & I had talked briefly about that, but haven't come to any decision...

What do you think? Should we have a family picnic so we can all get together for a casual afternoon and meet all the kids? If yes, I'll need ideas for a good location... and would you prefer Saturday or Sunday? Saturday would be nice from 11-2 for those of you coming from out of town, so you could head home on Sunday, but I worry that's going to be a very busy day for many of us. Sunday may be a bit more relaxing...? I'm thinking at a park or someone's (very big) back yard, we could all bring our own blankets or chairs to sit on, and pack a picnic lunch or snacks. Nothing fancy and no extra cost.

I'd love to hear your ideas... please post them or send me a message.

Thanks!
Rachel

Greetings from Northern Alabama!

Karen York <shudder>  I haven't gone by Karen since I started college. The last name disappeared 13 years ago.  I'm Kristeena Spain now.  I am happily married to a wonderful man and have 4 children.  I'm a homeschooling mom to the two younger ones (12 & 5).

While the idea of a reunion sounds interesting, I will not be attending.  It would be very difficult to justify the expense of such a trip.  In addition, I am not the same person I was in High School.  I have found joy, laughter,  friendship, and family in a way that would be far too sappy to post here.  If there's anyone who would like to make contact, may I point you to Facebook.  Just search for Kristeena Spain, and I'll pop right up.  If anyone wishes to remember me, just know that my tears have been replaced with joy; my loniless replaced with a home overflowing with love from family and friends.

All the best to those who attend the reunion, and to those who don't...and a special thanks to those who are putting all the time and energy into planning this.

Sincerely, Kristeena Spain

thank you

Rachel and friends, thank you for taking the time out and setting up this cool site. I still think of everyone from school over the years while serving in the military in many places. God bless ya all!

Post your old pictures for us to see!

OK, I've started this... but I don't want it to only be the few photos that I have, please go dig out all those embarassing pictures, scan them in and share them with us!  We have the senior slide show from 1990, but would love to add to it with whatever you post here for the reunion.  The more we get, the more fun & laughs we'll get out of it.  It will be worth your time!!  If you don't want to take the time to scan them in, email me and I'll do it for you!  rachelhbs@aol.com

Why you should attend!

We the planning committee, know this is going to be a rockin' cocktail, dinner & dance party! Including both a DJ & a live band, a casual get together in a beautiful outdoor setting... with lots of surprises to express the unique personality of our class!  This only happens every 10 years!  Even though we have social networks now like Facebook, MySpace & Twitter.... nothing compares to seeing each other in person, embracing each other, remembering the good ol' days, celebrating life, sharing what we've been doing for the last 20 years and most of all having one more FUN night together!!!  Buy your tickets early, tell your friends, and get ready for an amazing weekend!  Can't wait to see you ALL there!
